To ensure good traction in the desert, we recommend tyres that are as wide as possible (2.25 inches or more) with a good tread, that can be ridden on with low air pressure. It can be a good idea to use tubeless models which, together with a puncture protection liquid, provide enhanced security against glass, sharp stones and thorns.
With tyres for road riding and training, it’s less about traction. What’s more important is that you should have tyres that provide the lowest possible rolling resistance. Riders who don’t have two wheel/tyre sets can obtain all-round tyres – for example SCHWALBE’s RACING RALPH – which are just as suitable for the desert as they are for the road. Other models are available from other manufacturers. |
